Professional Home Network Installation

A home network is comprised of a number of devices including PCs, laptops, gaming systems, smartphones, printers and more that are connected to each other and to the internet. There are two kinds of home network installation: the wired network set up by home ethernet cable installers, where devices are connected via cables, and the wireless network where devices are connected via wi-fi.

Why Bother With a Home Network Installation?

There are quite a few reasons why someone would set up a home network. With a professional home network installation from Connect Automation you can:

  • Connect to the internet from anywhere in your home from any internet-enabled device.

  • Print from any device that is connected to the network.

  • Access files on any of your devices that are connected to the home network.

  • Work more effectively from home by linking all your devices to the network.

  • Manage the security settings for any device in the network from one centralised place.

More About the Two Kinds of Networks

As we mentioned there are two types of professional home network installation. Let’s take a closer look at both types now.

The Wired Home Network

Home ethernet wiring in the UK is becoming less common these days, but when it is deployed it is typically in a large home where a wi-fi signal might be blocked by thick walls or need to travel a long way to reach a device. A wired network is created by installing numerous data points where devices can be physically plugged in.

This type of residential ethernet installation won’t work with smartphones, but we can employ a workaround wherein we create a hybrid network by plugging a wi-fi modem into a data point near where you’re likely to use your smartphone the most.

The Wireless Home Network

The wireless home network is definitely the more popular kind these days, driven mostly by the fact that many people have abandoned PCs in favour of smartphones. A wireless home network entails installing a wireless modem (or modems depending on the size of the house) at a key point (or points) that the wireless devices use to access the internet. There is no internet cabling installation involved and you can even run your smart TV through it.
